Arlington County officials kept their commemoration of the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks short and simple, focusing on those who died and the first responders who made a difference.

County Board Chairman Paul Ferguson said the ceremony was to “commemorate those who lost their lives, as well as first responders.” A bell was tolled 184 times to remember each of the lives claimed when American Airlines Flight 77 was deliberately crashed into the Pentagon by terrorists.

Ferguson closed the ceremony acknowledging the county government employees “who served so ably on Sept. 11,” and thanked the members of the Arlington community for coming out to remember the victims of the attacks.
